It was interesting to see the movement of this lion, carrying the muse of drama. The combination of the great, roaring cat with the personification of Drama was indeed a powerful form of drama. Painted en plein air.

This square in historic Palermo was a prominent family. It is from the Renaissance. One sees the old glory from the outside, because it is very weathered. The weathering and the many restorations left a great texture on the facade. It was almost an abstraction.

My wife and I passed the holidays in La Serenissima, and once again I was completely absorbed by the movement of the water and the ornamentation of the noble city.

I always liked gondolas for how they bounce and dance on the water. The poles provide a vertical geometry, contrasting the horizontal curves of the gondolas. The deep jade color of the canals reflects so beautifully.

Such classic American architecture looks great in any light, especially early morning in summer. Painted on site from life.

Though the inhabitants of the island are well under 100 souls, this beautiful, old non-denominational church building gathers them together into a community. Painted from life in June of 2024, in the delicious light of early morning.

The Villa Vitalba outside Bergamo presents scores of intimate views onto its luxurious history. The light is amazing. I enjoyed using the light beam as a compositional force equal to objects with physical weight. I enjoyed the color scheme of burgundy with icy mint.

In this magnificent villa outside Bergamo, my wife and I teach painting courses every other year. The owners have enjoyed this estate as their family summer home since 1492, and one feels the lived-in happiness and bounty of this legacy. In this luminous hall we have demonstrations, dances, morning chats, and vicious ping-pong tournaments. The patterned floor was too much fun too ignore.
