The Family Album Series began with a collection of old photographs from my family. I decided to use the language of iconography to paint my family and our nation. When you look at an icon, you usually see a simple central figure surrounded by intricate decoration. Into this basic formula, I inserted symbols and images from the Chechen-Ingush (Vainakh) history.
